Azurite with Malachite (classic locality)

Item Description

A classic Azurite and Malachite association specimen from the famous Morenci Mine in Arizona, one of the premier copper mineral producers in the entire state. The finest Azurites from this locality are among the top examples of the species for any locality in Arizona, or the United States for that matter. This piece host several fine quality, rather sharp, notably lustrous, well-formed blades of a vivid midnight blue shade measuring up to 1.3 cm, associated with chatoyant rich green colored Malachite, on matrix. You can see a bit of Malachite on top of the Azurites, as they are starting to alter just slightly. The Azurites have a deep color, but there is a brightness to them if that makes sense, they almost remind me of the Azurites from Milpillas, as they have almost a sub-surface reflective quality. No major damage, only a few minor bruises on the display side. From the 1980s era of mining. Valued $2,000.
