Azurite with Malachite

Matrix specimens of Azurite from Kerrouchene tend to be the exception rather than the rule, so when available they are treasured and sought-after. All the more so when they are the quality of this large miniature. Highly lustrous and well-formed, the deep-blue Azurite crystals have such good translucence that parts of some of the crystals actually glow without even trying to backlight them. Several reach a bit over a full 1.0 cm in length, and they march in clusters across the crest of the matrix so that they display nicely from either side. There is even some pseudomorphing into Malachite, which adds color and more interest to the piece. Aesthetic and uncommon, this is a choice specimen for the locality.
