Item Description
The Azurite specimens from Sierra Rica in Chihuahua, Mexico are among the most distinctive examples of the species from any locality in the world. The combination of the beautiful and fine quality Azurite crystals sitting on slightly pale blue colored Quartz matrix is unmistakable. For reference, the unusual blue color of the Quartz must be caused by a coating of another micro mineral, but I've never seen any info as to what it might be. This piece is a wonderful example of this classic material featuring many lustrous, deep midnight blue colored, semi-"rosettes" or "fan"-shaped groups of Azurite measuring up to 6 mm across associated with small brown-black colored spherical / botryoidal groups of Goethite sitting on the aforementioned pale powder blue colored Quartz matrix. A beautiful representation of these now hard to find specimens. If you collect minerals of Mexico, copper minerals or secondary ore specimens, don't miss out on this beauty. From the collection of Dr. Barratt Phillips, erroneously labeled as coming from "Sierra Vista, Mexico".
