Item Description

The prolific Liufengshan mine has been the source of some of the world's finest specimens of Azurite and Malachite. The pieces are notably similar to classic specimens from Arizona, particularly Bisbee. This piece is a superb quality, attractive display specimen of Azurite on Malachite featuring wonderful, highly lustrous, sharp, lustrous deep midnight blue Azurite crystals measuring up to 1.6 cm long associated with green Malachite on minor matrix. What sets this piece apart from others from the locality is the notably elongated prismatic habit of the Azurite crystals. In fact, this particular habit is rare for the species in general, as crystals are often either tabular or blocky, but rarely thin and elongated like this. The quality is excellent, especially when you look at the crystals up close as they glisten with an almost "wet" luster. VERY little damage. These specimens are certainly among the most celebrated contemporary Azurite specimens out there, and pieces like this are fast disappearing from the market. Priced in the inventory at $2,500.
