Azurite "suns"

Numerous large and small azurite "suns" are aesthetically clustered and scattered on the sculptural large blocky matrix on this showy specimen from recent finds at the Malbunka Copper Mine of Australia. The interesting, nubby, crystallized disks are both navy-blue and lighter royal-blue, which adds color and character to the contrasting kaolinized siltstone matrix. The aggregates were forced to grow in a laterally compressed, radiating manner. All of the "suns" are pristine, except for the one broken disk on the periphery, which is a minimal distraction. Not another azurite locality in the world produces them quite like this. An excellent matrix piece with multiple "suns" highlighted by the clusters and variable sizes and colors. While classics, and mined each year currently, this is a artful and colorful specimen.
