Item Description

Four strongly-saturated azurite "suns" are expertly set on a line on the sculptural matrix. The large sun in the center is 3.3 cm across and striking, protruding off the matrix edge is 3.1 cm across. The suns are navy-blue with interesting secondary overgrowths of bifurcating royal-blue azurite. The azurite suns form between layers of kaolinized siltstone. The aggregates were forced to grow in a laterally compressed, radiating manner. Not another azurite locality in the world produces them quite like this. A fine matrix piece with multiple "suns" highlighted by the dramatic protruding "sun". While classics, and mined each year currently, this is a particularly cute and colorful specimen.
