Item Description

A stunning 4.1 cm bi-colored azurite "sun" dominates one side of this outstanding two-sided large and sculptural specimen from recent finds in Australia. The surreal rosette has a bright royal-blue rim accenting the navy-blue mounded crystallized interior and is dramatically accented with the bifurcating royal-blue line across the middle. Numerous smaller "suns", to 2.1 cm, with more heavily crystallized navy-blue azurite cover the back of the layered kaolinite siltstone matrix. The azurite suns form between layers of kaolinized siltstone. The aggregates were forced to grow in a laterally compressed, radiating manner. Not another azurite locality in the world produces them quite like this. An exceptional large and rich two-sided matrix piece with multiple "suns" highlighted by the striking large single "sun" on one side.
