Azurite (''sun'')

Item Description

A beautiful and aesthetic specimen of the famous Azurite "suns" from the Malbunka Copper Mine in Australia. These unique and well-known specimens have an interesting form, that is almost solely associated with this locality. This piece features a 5.3 cm, semi-layered, rich blue colored, compressed "rosette" of Azurite, aesthetically sitting on matrix. The Azurite was forced to grow in a laterally compressed, radiating manner. I don't think there is another Azurite locality in the world produces them quite like this. From the collection of Vasco Trancoso, a medical doctor and prominent mineral collector from near Lisbon, Portugal (https://www.mindat.org/user-11954.html). He assembled his mineral collection over the course of 60 years, and built a fine worldwide display collection that we recently purchased.
