Item Description
This piece is labeled as coming from Rancho Santa Rosa in the ConcepciĆ³n del Oro Municipality of Zacatecas, but f you look at the entry on mindat.org (https://www.mindat.org/loc-21509.html), it states, "Rancho Santa Rosa is the classic locality for blocky azurite roses", and this locality lies in the Mazapil Municipality. With that said, this piece is a rare locality specimen featuring a "rose"-shaped group comprising thick, blocky, deep blue colored bladed crystals of Azurite, free of matrix. The piece is crystallized on all sides, and it honestly looks to be a complete "floater", as I can't really find a true point of attachment or contacts anywhere. If you're a fan of secondary copper minerals, or specifically Azurite, or you collect specimens from Mexico, this is something that would make a fine addition to any collection, especially because of the rare locality. Valued $2,000.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#177 Mx), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection over the following months and years through our various platforms.
