Item Description
The Kelly Mine is one of the most famous localities in New Mexico, best known for its secondary lead minerals like Smithsonite and Aurichalcite, but there have been small amounts of Azurite to come out of this mine over the years. This piece is one of the better examples we've had to offer from this prestigious locality featuring a coverage of little (1 mm+) sparkling, sharp, well-formed, deep blue colored crystals of Azurite on the display side of the specimen, but what makes it special and indicative of the Kelly Mine is that you can clearly see greenish-blue Smithsonite beneath the Azurites, and on the reverse side of the specimen, where pale grey-blue translucent aggregates and powdery blue Aurichalcite can be seen. A great association specimen of this rare material from this important locale.
Ex Dave Stoudt collectio, whose label states it was acquired (through us) from the Gary Weaver collection.
