Azurite (RARE 1997 find)

Pretty royal-blue and navy-blue, sparkly to matte, bladed azurite botroyoids dramatically cover both sides of the large lightweight, sculptural gossan matrix crust. Interestingly, the front has more royal-blue azurite and the back has more navy-blue azurite. The RARE piece is from a one-time 1997 find at an uncommon Brazilian locality - Seabra, Bahia State. One usually thinks of world-class gem pegmatite minerals and rare species from Brazil. So, to see oxidized copper minerals from Brazil is truly unusual and rare. This find was very well received when they came out at the time, and we sold this to Vasco in the late 1990s. Ex Dr Vasco Trancoso Collection and illustrated in the MINDAT Photo Gallery for the locale. A very large and impressive two-sided plate from the one-time find and locale. NOTE - most specimens show alteration to malachite, at least in part: this, less so than others.
