Item Description

The famous and historic Copper Mines of Chessy are world-renowned for producing some of the first recorded secondary copper minerals in Europe. Not only has the area been mined for copper since the Middle Ages (mining stopped in 1875), but it's actually the type locality for Azurite (which was originally called Chessylite)! This is a wonderful historic Azurite semi "rose"-shaped specimen featuring, semi lustrous, midnight blue, blocky Azurite crystals measuring up to 1.0 cm, partially pseudomorphing to Malachite. It is very difficult for collectors to obtain fine quality specimens of this material today, and the fact that this piece hosts multiple crystals makes even more desirable. This piece was mined in the 1800s, so it's well over 100 years old ! A great specimen for any collector, a collector of European classics, or anyone who appreciates Azurite. Priced at $950 in the inventory.
