Azurite on Quartz

The distinctive and beautiful Azurite specimens from Sierra Rica in Chihuahua, Mexico are instantly recognizable for their beautiful combination of fine quality Azurite crystals sitting on slightly pale blue colored Quartz matrix. The association is certainly unmistakable, and truly doesn't look like any other locality I've seen. For reference, the unusual blue color of the Quartz is almost certainly caused by a coating of another micro mineral, but I've never seen any info as to what it might be. This piece is a wonderful example of this classic material featuring many highly lustrous, deep midnight blue colored, semi-"rosettes"-esque groups of Azurite measuring up to 5 mm across sitting on the aforementioned pale powder blue colored Quartz matrix. Minor green Malachite is present as well. A beautiful representation of these now hard to find specimens. If you collect minerals of Mexico, copper minerals or secondary ore specimens, don't miss out on this beauty.
