Azurite on Malachite - Scotland! ex Sherburn

Attractive plate of microcrystalline Azurite and Malachite from Scotland's Airthrey Hill Mine, an old Copper mine worked mostly in 17th & 18th centuries. The vivid blue of the Azurite plays nicely against the soft, light green of the Malachite, but the truly fascinating aspect of this small cabinet piece are the quite distinct, well-preserved crystal edges. I can only imagine that this plate began life as an epimorph coating an original, well-crystallized specimen of Copper crystals, and it is these Coppers that we see imaged on this plate. It's remarkable, and adds greatly to the character and aesthetics of this fine old specimen. Recently deaccessed from the Tim Sherburn collection. Rare! Tim specialized in trading, collecting, and buying Scottish minerals and travelled there himself for acquisition.
