Item Description

The beautiful and world-class Azurites from the famous Milpillas Mine in Mexico will go down as some of the finest examples of the species ever found from any locality. Azurite is literally found in thousands of world localities, but the top pieces from Milpillas are just a tier above almost everything else that's been found, with a few exceptions like Tsumeb, Touissit, Bisbee, Liufengshan, and a handful of other localities. It's important to note that the oxidized zone at Milpillas is completely mined out, so we will never see any more of these amazing specimens. I'm sure you've noticed that they have quickly dried up from the market in recent years, and they will surely appreciate in value over time. This is a remarkably showy and superb quality display specimen hosting several incredibly well-formed, highly lustrous, intense blue colored blades measuring up to 2.4 cm on edge, sitting atop chatoyant, rich emerald green, fibrous Malachite matrix. The main Azurite crystals are in superb condition, and the only roughness I can see is on the lower portion of the specimen where it was removed from the pocket wall. With strong backlighting, you can see little intense gemmy electric indigo flashes on the edges of the crystals, which is rare as most Azurites don't pass light when backlit. . A really choice example of this now lesser-seen material.
Valued $3,000.
Ex Shields Flynn collection.
