Item Description
Here we have a wonderful display specimen featuring fine navy blue colored bladed Azurite crystals sitting atop a layer of velvety / chatoyant Malachite on matrix from Morenci. The Azurites have formed in what I would call semi-"rosette"-esque groups. There is a small amount of Azurite under the Malachite for a nice touch. This area has produced some of the most attractive Azurite and Malachite combinations from any locality in the world. Obviously, Bisbee is the premier Arizona locality for Azurite specimens, but Morenci produced some truly gorgeous specimens over the years. The largest crystal on the specimen measures 1.2 cm. This particular style of Azurite on Malachite from Morenci are not terribly common on the market, and certainly are worth picking up in this market. If you collect secondary ore minerals, copper species or minerals of Arizona, don't miss out on this attractive small cabinet sized display piece for a great price. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
