Azurite on Bayldonite ps. Mimetite & Malachite (circa early 1900s)

Choice and appealing simply for color and sparkle alone before you even think about the 100 year old history here, this fine, small-cabinet, combination piece is from the great Tsumeb Mine. Azurites from there always garner attention, and the deep color and high luster of these bladed crystals, in small flower-like clusters or rosettes to 3-4 mm, do just that. Associated are rich, botryoidal layers of sparkly forest-green Bayldonite that is also found in two forms: drusy crystals and as exceptional larger pseudomorphs after Mimetite. Long and slender, these appear to range up to 5 mm, but if the longest are actually contiguous below the bladed and shimmery Malachites, the pseudos would reach a very impressive 1.6 cm. With such good mineralogy and built-in history, and with the variations of colors, forms, and lusters having such aesthetic contrasts, this combination piece is excellent. This is from old material found in the early 1900s era of exploration here, and seldom on market for sale. Valued $2500.
