Item Description
Old-time Tsumeb azurites have great appeal to mineral collectors and well they should. This is an impressive diverging cluster of blocky, highly lustrous, royal-blue to midnight-blue azurite crystals set on matrix. The striking wall of stout, angled compound crystals is 4.5 cm across. This wall is complete all-around and PRISTINE, as the terminations are contacted slightly but have no damage, per se. Hidden in the cleft between the clusters is an INCREDIBLE, 1.0 cm x 1 mm, gem, "electric-blue" azurite of the very best Tsumeb quality. There are also many scattered flashes of electric-blue under strong light, on edges. The wall is striking and this is a significant old-timer from this most renowned locality. Ex Robert Whitmore Collection. The large crystals are significant and make the piece good in and of themselves. As well, the backlit photo really highlights the gorgeous blue gemmy edges of a stunning little 1 cm crystal perched in a protected crevasse. Valued $2500.
