Item Description

Bisbee Azurites are about as classic as it gets for the species. The material is beloved and seldom available on the market these days. This is a lovely small cabinet display specimen from the Holbrook Shaft / Mine featuring a coverage of attractive, velvety, beautiful rich blue colored Azurite is spherical growths on a thin layer of Limonite matrix. The reverse side of the piece shows a slightly more lustrous, sparkly deposition of Azurite with smaller, more isolated spheres. Overall the piece is in very good shape, with only a tiny amount of bruising, but nearly pristine, save the periphery where it was removed from the pocket wall. A great old time specimen from one of the premier specimen localities in the United States. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
