Item Description
A showy, excellent and unusual, old-time azurite specimen from the famous and closed Tsumeb Mine. Three, sharply terminated, lustrous, azure-blue to midnight-blue, crystals are jauntily lined up on the sintered gossan matrix. The large crystal, at 4.1 cm, has lightly etched faces. The middle and left-hand crystals are unetched, are beautifully striated, and have desirable "electric-blue" gemminess under bright light. The backside of this two-sided piece is RADICALLY different! All three of the crystals are heavily to moderately etched and have a matte finish - unusual. Especially the large crystal. This is old-time material from the upper oxidized levels of this famous mine and certainly dates to prior to World War II. Ex George Elling Collection. Valued at $500-700.
