Item Description
Rudabánya is an old medieval copper locale that produced some of the earliest pieces of Azurite and Malachite (along with some famous pseudomorphs of Malachite after Cuprite) ever known. In fact the Azurites found at this locality could possibly predate the famous pieces from Chessy (the type locality for Azurite), but were either not reported or described. WIth that said, most of the Azurite specimens you'll see on the market (which is VERY few these days) from this locality are often crude, or micro or just plain unattractive. THIS specimen however is one of the best quality Azurites we've ever had to offer from Rudabánya. It's a beautiful "floewr" or "rose"-esque group comprising dozens of small, sharp, somewhat lustrous, bladed midnight blue crystals, free of matrix. The back of the piece has a bit of a rounded appearance, and a softer blue color than the front. It's not the finest quality Azurite in the world, but for Rudabánya, it's excellent, and much better than virtually anything you'll find for sale from this famous old world locality. A must have for any fan of historic European minerals, worldwide Azurites or secondary ore minerals.
