Item Description

Exceptional and sculptural older azurite and malachite from the Sacramento Mine at Bisbee. Impressive highly lustrous, large, blocky tapered lozenge-shaped azurite crystals with bright azure-blue color are aesthetically intergrown on the gossan matrix. The crystals have gorgeous electric-blue color under bright light and most of the crystals are partially or entirely pseudomorphed by malachite. The striking large crystals reach 3.3 cm. This is classic and RARE material from the Sacramento Mine. The original Sacramento Mine started in 1904 and produced high grade ore until about 1931. The Sacramento Pit started in 1917 and both localities were engulfed by the large Lavender Pit in 1950. Specimens from either Sacramento locality are rare compared to other famous Bisbee mines. This RARE specimen was collected in the old Sacramento Mine in 1937 by Bob Kuhlmeyer beneath the active Sacramento Pit! An IMPORTANT and historic Bisbee specimem as even the mine level and stope is known! From the Bob Bartels Collection. Valued at $2500-3500 and worth it.
