Item Description
There are many localities for Azurite and Malachite in Morocco, but this piece features the rare combo of Azurite and Malachite with Fluorite and Baryte. I've only seen a handful of pieces from this locality that feature either Fluorite or Baryte with the Azurite and Malachite, but I can't remember having one with all four species together like this piece. The front of the specimen features attractive rich blue micro sparkling Azurite with accenting green Malachite (plus what appears to be micro rhombs of Ankerite?) and the reverse side hosts several gemmy, soft golden colored cubes of Fluorite measuring up to 6 mm, plus white "rosette" of bladed Baryte crystals. There is a secondary green coating on some of the Fluorite and Baryte crystals that is a lighter green hue than the Malachite on the front, so I'm wondering if this is another copper mineral, possibly Chrysocolla? The matrix is mostly Quartz, with a bit of oxidized areas mixed in here and there. It's a beautiful display specimen with a rich combination of species and colors, and it's honestly even more fun to view under magnification. Don't miss out on this one, it was mined nearly a decade ago, and I haven't seen similar pieces from the locality since.
