Azurite & Malachite cabochon (1980s - classic Morenci)

Banded light and dark malachite surrounds the interior of beautiful, rich azure-blue to nearly electric-blue, banded azurite of this sculptural, highly polished, striking and very fine cabochon. The azurite and malachite "eyes" really add pizzazz. The back is rhyolite. This is classic, older (1980s) and excellent material from the noted Morenci Mine. Mass is 24 grams or 120 carats. We found one more piece from the small lot we obtained in, of all places, an old collection at the Munich Show that had been purchased from Zee Haag and Wayne Thompson, contractors for the mine's specimens, in the early 1980s. Valued at $400-500.
