Azurite & Malachite cabochon (11 grams)

Beautiful, rich azure-blue to nearly electric-blue, banded azurite is strikingly partially surrounded and bisected by a nifty stringer and patch of banded malachite with azurite on this sculptural, highly polished, striking and very fine cabochon. It is slightly concave. I really like the way the diagonal malachite bisects the cabochon. The rhyolite matrix on the back adds character. Classic, old-time (1980s) and excellent material from the noted Morenci Mine. Mass is 11 grams or 55 carats. This is the last piece from the small lot we obtained in, of all places, an old collection at the Munich show.
