Azurite is a favorite species among collectors for its stellar quality crystals, found famously from places like the Tsumeb Mine in Namibia along with Touissit, Morocco and Bisbee, Arizona. Starting in the early 2000s, the famous Milpillas Mine was a source of some of the finest crystallized Azurite specimens ever found. No specimens of note have come out in a few years, as the oxidized zone is mined through, and it's nearly certain that no more significant specimens will be found again, which has caused the demand (and the subsequent value) of these Azurites to increase. This fantastic small cabinet specimen features excellent quality, highly lustrous, razor-sharp, deep midnight blue colored crystals of Azurite measuring 1.6 cm, forming a solid "plate". No matrix is present, but the reverse side of the piece reveals a beautiful "dusting" of gorgeous mint green, thin, acicular Malachite. The balance, aesthetics, superior quality and overall visual appeal of the piece make it a really impressive example of these already top-notch Azurites. The central crystals are in very good shape overall, though there are a few nicks on the Azurite group, so it's not 100% pristine, hence the auction listing. A little bit of edge wear around the periphery is expected where the piece was removed from the pocket wall, but this piece remains an incredibly eye-catching and fine quality display specimen and would make a wonderful addition to any collection of Azurites, secondary ore minerals or Mexican minerals.
