Item Description
The prestigious Tsumeb Mine over the course of its lifetime had many memorable discoveries, but one of the most famous pockets in its history was the esteemed Easter Pocket, found in 1994, producing some truly iconic Azurites. This pocket was the last major discovery at Tsumeb, and produced some of the most singular examples of the species seen from the mine. Azurite is a fairly widespread species around the world, and a good number of the top specimens ever seen have come from Tsumeb, so it's significant when you have a particular pocket that truly stands out from other Azurite discoveries at an already distinguished locality. The majority of the pieces from this pocket featured crystals with tabular blades, of a more equant growth, with incredibly high luster and even a bit gemminess when backlit. This piece is loaded with superb crystals with a highly reflective, "wet" luster, and a deep midnight blue color in reflected light, showing vivid areas of glowing indigo shades when backlit. There are some contacts, so the piece is not pristine, but few were completely damage-free, and they are so highly sought after on the market that a bit of roughness is very forgivable. A great opportunity to get your hands on a piece of one of the major Azurite discoveries from Tsumeb. Not only is the piece high quality and very eye-catching, but it also has great pedigree. Valued $6,000. The piece comes with a free custom acrylic display base.
From the collection of Alex Neufeld (#AN0320), and originally from the collection of noted Tsumeb mineral expert, Bill Pinch, one of the great mineral collectors and amateur mineralogists of the second half of the 20th century. One of the labels also states that the piece was in the collection of Chris Amo.
