Item Description

Azurite one of the most well-known secondary copper minerals on Earth, found in thousands of world localities. With that said, an argument can be made that the finest examples of Azurite are the top pieces from the famed Tsumeb Mine. The best of these specimens are incredibly high quality for the species, with superb crystallization, luster, size, color and even GEMMINESS! This piece is wonderful showy miniature featuring excellent, highly lustrous elongated bladed crystals of a deep midnight blue color, measuring up to 4.7 cm, free of matrix. When backlit, there are areas on the crystals that show a vivid indigo color, which is not commonly seen in Azurite, especially as the main crystal on this piece is somewhat thicker and still passes light. The piece is in very good shape, there is a line of interrupted growth on the main crystal, but it's not damage. Many of the smaller crystals are in fine condition, with only trivial nicks, though the underside of the piece is understandably contacted where the specimen was removed from the pocket wall. Overall it's a highly presentable and superb quality representation of these classic Azurites from what many people consider to be the world's greatest mineral locality. The piece comes with a free custom acrylic display base. Valued $5,000.
From the collection of Alex Neufeld (#AN0298), originally in the collection of Rock Currier. there is a painted number on the base from Rock's collection (#RHC128).
