Item Description
Gorgeous, rich royal-blue and dark navy-blue, blocky, sharp azurite crystal form a striking, colorful and excellent 360-degree knob from the famous and ancient mines at Chessy, the Type Locality for azurite. Complete all-around. Part of one side is contacted, with minimal bruising, but has little impact on the very high quality of this fine old-timer. The mines closed in 1875. The piece displays beautifully without aid. The striking royal-blue color is remarkable on this very fine piece. Valued at $1200-1500, easily. These have a unique visual look to them, and a provenance that simply is almost mystical to collectors. Few enough turn up in old collections.
