Item Description

This piece came to me with the Dr. Miguel Romero Collection of Mexican minerals (see: http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=792), in 2008, as part of his worldwide suite. He had bought it as Mexican, but that was later changed to reflect the belief it was from Chessy in France...and it does LOOK Chessy to my eye, as well. The form is unusual for any locality, really. After showing it around at Munich and then Tucson, we are sure as can be from the combination of habit and matrix character that it is not from Mexico, not from Chessy, but rather is a Tsumeb azurite with a bit of an unusual habit to it. The piece is really attractive, featuring a sharp, robust, freestanding crystal like a boat-tower right in the middle of the piece. The color is a rich azure blue, even in minimal light - unusually bright for a Tsumeb azurite so many of which are dark to near black in color unless you light them with a torch. Valued $2000
