Azurite (classic material)

A lovely historic Azurite specimen from one of the most classic localities in all of Europe ! Typically the Azurite specimens from Chessy are found in less than desirable crystals, but this piece is an actual GROUP of sharp, very well defined, LUSTROUS, midnight blue, blocky Azurite crystals measuring up to 1.7 cm. No matrix is visible, and only a TINY bit of Malachite is present. The crystal faces have GREAT luster, and are amazingly smooth for the age of the specimen. It is very difficult for collectors to obtain fine quality specimens of this material today, and the fact that this piece hosts multiple crystals makes even more desirable. Mining has taken place at Chessy since the Middle Ages, and finished in 1875, but the famous "Blue Room" - where Azurite was seen for the first time - took place in 1811, so it's very possible that this piece is 200 years old or more! A great specimen for any collector, a collector of European classics, or anyone who appreciates Azurite. The piece is not 100% undamaged, as there are some contacted areas, which is more than understandable considering the age of the material. Priced in the inventory at $750, but I think it could be more based upon the quality and age.
