Azurite (beautiful color)

Item Description

Azurite is a well-known copper carbonate mineral, found in thousands of world localities. When it comes to Moroccan specimens, Touissit is the premier locality for the species, but the Oumjrane area has produced some very eye-catching examples. This particular specimen for my taste has some of the best color you'll see for Azurite, not just from Oumjrane, but almost anywhere. The color is both rich and saturated, yet still notably vibrant at the same time. The blue truly glows on this piece, even though the crystals are opaque, they just shine with color. A group of well-formed, lustrous, sharp Azurite crystals - which measure up to 1.3 cm - are sitting beautifully atop a matrix of translucent colorless Quartz to create very showy toenail sized display specimen. Good quality, great aesthetics and that color is just beautiful in person.
From the collection of Brian Kosnar, originally part of the collection of William ("Bill") Pinch (August 15, 1940 - April 1, 2017) of Rochester, New York. Bill was one of the most knowledgeable and accomplished mineral collectors / amateur mineralogists of the 20th century, and he was the namesake for the rare mercury oxyhalide species, Pinchite. The prestigious Pinch medal, which is typically awarded at the Tucson Gem And Mineral Show by the Mineralogical Association of Canada is also named in his honor.
