Item Description
Old-time Copper Queen Mine azurite and malachite specimens are a worldwide classic and this is a superb large example. The composition of this piece is stunning with the azurite concentrated in the center of the curved matrix and flanked on either side by the malachite. The spherical aggregates of sparkly royal-blue to navy-blue azurite crystals are top-flight Bisbee and have the desirable "electric-blue" gemminess under bright light. The botryoidal malachite in the upper left-hand quadrant hosts four, broken malachite stalactites, that reveal the radial growth pattern and hollow center tubes where precipitating copper-rich fluids flowed. This is the finest large Copper Queen azurite and malachite we have offered at auction and would normally be reserved for the Gallery. This piece certainly dates to prior to World War I. Fairly valued at $2500. Ex Robert Whitmore Collection. MUCH, MUCH BETTER IN PERSON!!!
