Azurite and Malachite (pocket)

Item Description

An unusual object of lapidary polished material from a famous Chinese azurite discovery, this is simply a gorgeous piece of mineral "miscellany" that is hard to classify. While it is lapidary (carved and polished), it also preserves a natural pocket of sparkling azurite crystals. Because of the richness of this deposit, and of particular finds in the mid-2000s, some few specimens like this were given out to be expertly polished to create these interesting display pieces. We have not seen anything like them, not even nearly so good, in many years now. As always, Jack bought from a new find and was willing to pay a premium for something that caught his eye. In this case, it is hard to say what it was worth, or is worth now; but it is something very surprising and beautiful that fits in well with any shelf of colorful specimens. 186 grams.
