Item Description

The famous copper mines at Chessy have been closed since the end of the 19th Century. This is an OLD-TIME azurite and malachite specimen, obviously from the active mining era. Bladed, spherical aggregates of azurite are beauifully accented by a nodule of highly chatoyant, banded, bladed, bright green malachite. The old labels confirm the age of this rich and hefty for the size, ore specimen. One paper arrow on the piece calls azurite, "chessylite", which is an antique synonym for the species at the Type Locality. The small label calls the minerals "Blue & Green Carbonate of Copper". Nice representative specimen from this old locale! Ex Herb Obodda dealer stock.
