Azurite and Malachite carving by Bud Stanley, ex Larson

A classic of American lapidary and carving, this freeform sculpture is a combination of azurite and malachite from the mid-1980s heyday here, when much thick lapidary grade material was recovered by Stan Esbenshade and Wayne Thompson and sent out to the carving market to finance the mining and preparation of the specimens. It was carved by well-known Arizona artist, Bud Stanley, who specialized in such freeform carvings at the time and whose work was in the collections of many major dealers and collectors of the day. This was sold at the time to Bill Larson, and remained in his collection until now - he has a vast collection of carvings and other historic mineral-related objects. 198 grams, no repairs, and really colorful and beautiful in a case! ex William Larson collection.
