Azurite and Malachite

A large, attractive, multi-generation display specimen from the classic locality of Bisbee, this is extremely 3-dimensional in person and comes from old finds that we rarely see on the market! The earlier staged Azurites, 3-4 mm in size and highly lustrous, are numerous in their expansive pockets that comprise much of this large cabinet piece. These were followed by spheres of Malachite to 1.3 cm. In turn, the Malachites are decorated with numerous and sharp, red tiny crystals that are sub-1 mm in size (limonite? possible tiny cuprites that are oxidized?). There is also a lustrous, rust-red coating across a good deal of the Malachites that really creates an attention-grabbing contrast. Limonite or Goethite, perhaps? An interesting, surprisingly attractive, and excellent large cabinet specimen from one of the great US localities. From the extensive collection of Bob Reynolds, who cherished both minerals and fossils as he collected. Bob is a prolific author and has had several curating positions in museums. This is of a style that was foudn only in the old days, late 1800s and early 1900s. It has a "look to it" that is distinct, and seldom seen outside of museums or some few old collections.
