Azurite and Malachite

Item Description

A fine specimen of Azurite on Malachite from the Liufengshan Mine in the Guichi District of China, from an old find and with unusual texture. The matrix is nearly pure Malachite and all the vugs, including the large, sculptural vug that dominates the specimen, are liberally populated with Azurites. These Azurites range from velvety, VIOLET, 5 mm crystals down to mm-size crystals that are deep blue and highly lustrous. The Malachite expresses itself in the vugs as finely-formed, shimmery botryoids to 1.7 cm. Where exposed, the classic, radial growth of the Malachite is chatoyant and very attractive. There is some contacting on the Azurites, in places, but this hefty, cabinet-sized specimen still displays very well. The color contrast is just beautiful and truly resembles classic material from Bisbee, Arizona. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl, a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces.
