Item Description
Lovely combination Morenci specimen of intergrown spherical "balls" of finely bladed dark blue Azurites on multi-hued green to light blue Chrysocolla all resting on a brecciated matrix. The Azurite spheres, up to 9mm in size, flow one into another across the display side. Each sphere showing a highly detailed bladed texture resulting in the delicate chatoyancy displayed. The Chrysocolla tends to be a more layered deposit as seen on the side cross-sections. Starting with a botryoidal kelly green layer followed by an olive green and then a sporadic pale light blue. While the previous tag just lists Chrysocolla, there may also be some Malachite mixed in. The piece is in good condition with some periphery edge wear and a couple of minor dings but for its age and local it is acceptable. Good Morenci Azurites are highly desirable and difficult to find on the market. Ex. Jack Halpern Collection No. 2485. This was purchased from Ken Roberts in the 1980s, and Ken had obtained it from ongoing production at the time - now, of course, also a "modern" USA classic from 40 years ago!
