Item Description
A rich and attractive small cabinet matrix azurite from the famous Milpillas Mine. An impressive dense jackstraw cluster of sharp edged, flattened, tapered crystals is aesthetically set on the sculptural triangular porphyry matrix covered with starkly contrasting snow-white Dickite clay. The highly lustrous prisms are nearly black, with the dominating large crystal at 2.8 cm. Bright light and back lighting reveals areas of gorgeous "electric-blue color", a highly desirable trait of Milpillas azurites. The interior is pristine and the bit of noted periphery wear is certainly only a modest detraction. Possibly from the 2010 Chispa Pocket. See the 2021 Mineralogical Record Mexico Special Issue IX, the Milpillas Mine, Vol. 52, No.5. The mine is now closed as of 2020. Milpillas is certainly considered to be one of the world's greatest azurite and malachite producers ever. This is a fine and rich matrix example of this varietal. Get one while you can.
