Striking opposing clusters of tabular, parallel-growth azurite crystal richly cover the large, sculptural matrix plate on this impressive specimen from the famed, extinct Tsumeb Mine. The azurite field is dramatically dominated by the stunning, large, blocky, sharp, 2.9 cm, doubly terminated crystal with mirror-like faces. Most of the parallel-growth azurites are highly lustrous and have midnight-blue to navy-blue hues under normal lighting. Some azurites have a distinctively different and complementary matte finish, that adds character. Bright light reveals gorgeous areas of "electric-blue" color, that really add glamour to the piece. This very showy piece appears to be pristine, except for trivial periphery wear. Ex Raul Sanabria Collection. Raul was the lead author in the recent, 2024, fine Berbes! Mineralogical Record issue, Vol 55, No. 1. A classic and very fine large example of this azurite style from the famed locale. It comes from his small suite of various styles of old Tsumeb azurites.
