Item Description

A lovely 4.1 cm, bi-colored azurite "sun" is aesthetically set atop the mounded, kaolinite siltstone matrix. The three variable blue layers really enhance the piece. A narrow, navy-blue basal rim is followed by an impressive, broader, layered royal-blue rim. The crystallized navy-blue interior adds a striking, artistic, visual aspect to the piece. This dramatic and colorful specimen is from recent Australian finds. The blue color hues and interior crystallization makes it a special quality example in this size range. The azurite suns form between layers of kaolinite. The aggregate was forced to grow in a laterally compressed, radiating manner. Not another azurite locality in the world produces them quite like this. While classics, and mined each year until the deposit goes out, this is a particularly aesthetic and colorful specimen.
