Item Description

A beautiful thumbnail of Azurite from the Hanover #2 Mine in New Mexico featuring sharp, well-formed, rich blue colored, thick bladed crystals forming a "rose"-esque or almost "pinwheel"-shaped group, free of matrix. Please note that there is a bit of blue putty stuck to the back of the specimen, and it was incredibly difficult to remove, but don't mistake it for another mineral. The piece is crystallized all over, with no damage that I can find, and it would make superb addition to any thumbnail suite, a collection of secondary copper minerals, worldwide Azurites or minerals from New Mexico.
From the collection of John Whatley, a well-known Georgia collector (1939-2022). John had many interests and hobbies, and favorite hobby was collecting rocks and minerals. He was a member of the Augusta and Aiken, SC Gem and Mineral Society. He also enjoyed collecting arrowheads and he co-authored the book, An Overview of Georgia Projectile Points and Select Cutting Tools. He was a member of the Georgia, South Carolina, and Alabama Archaeology Societies and he also enjoyed volunteering in the Archaeology Department at SRS.
