Item Description

The beautiful and world-class Azurite specimen from the famous Milpillas Mine in Mexico will go down as some of the finest examples of the species in history. It will point of that it's significant to say that a particular locality produced some of the best Azurites in the world, when you think about all the Azurite producing localities out there. The oxidized zone at Milpillas is completely mined out, so we will never see any more of these amazing specimens. I'm sure you've noticed that they have quickly dried up from the market in recent years, and they will surely appreciate in value over time. This is an attractive display specimen featuring good quality, sharp, rather lustrous, deep blue crystals measuring up to 2.6 cm, with only a tiny bit of white Dickite clay, and no real matrix. There is a bit of roughness ins pots, so the piece is not pristine, but still in good overall condition. My favorite aspect of the specimen is the doubly-terminated smaller crystal which is sitting perpendicular across the top of the larger crystal on the upper portion of the piece. With strong backlighting, a vivid indigo hue can be seen piercing through the edges, which is rare as most Azurites don't pass light when backlit.
