Azurite

This azurite crystal has a textbook crystallography and shape, glassy luster, and amazing color - it was absolutely our single favorite azurite of the large azurite suite in this important collection. We rarely use the informal and really quite nonspecific word "Killer" to describe a mineral; but this truly is a Killer, a lustrous translucent single crystal of azurite from the Electric Blue pocket. Discovered in a single pocket in 2009, the blue is stunning and this is a perfect, large sized thumbnail example of one of the most famous azurite finds ever. Several people asked us to acquire this specimen last year when we released Round 1 of the collection, but it was allocated to be one of the important pieces for this year's auction and we have stayed true to our word on this. So here it is - literally one of the finest azurite thumbnails you could ever own, worthy of such hyperbole. In person, it practically glows with color. This specimen should of course have made it into the book on the Schauss collection, but it has no good photo at the time.
