Azurite

Item Description

A classic, relatively large and lustrous midnight-blue single Azurite crystal from Tsumeb. This is a solid, two-inch, nearly textbook Azurite crystal from this classic locality with broad faces on the front and back with well-developed faces on the sides and back and sharp edges. One long edge shows where the crystal was attached to an off-white Calcite matrix. It's unusual that this big Azurite doesn't exhibit the relatively typical striated faces, but it does show subtle, and broad, very low profile hillocks that sweep over the larger faces. A couple of small patches, essentially vugs, of white Calcite punctuate the big crystal in places. From the Pohl collection number, we know this was found prior to the 1980s, and it could be a much older find still. A fat, bold, robust single crystal quite unlike most others!
