An impressive, EXTREMELY RARE, very rich and sculptural large axinite combination from Fresnillo! Axinite is rare from Mexico, with most specimens coming from the skarn deposits of Baja California. This dramatic and artistic two-sided piece is solid lustrous, bladed parallel-growth clusters of dark clove-brown axinite crystals. Glassy, colorless fluorescent calcite rhombs scattered about are a nice contrast and accessory. A multitude of sphalerite and galena microcrystals are also noted on the axinites and calcite. Originally labelled as being from Baja California from the Paul Jung and Dave Stoudt Collections. The specimen was sent to respected Mexico expert, Dr. Pete Megaw, for his analysis. His report is with the piece and he concluded that the piece is from the Fortuna Shaft at Fresnillo. A very rare and rich UNIQUE large Fresnillo axinite combination dating to pre-1980. Priced at $2000 to Dave Stoudt in 2006, this amazing piece is certainly worth the same today. A MUST for the species or locality collector!
