Item Description
Axinite is typically considered a collector's stone. This is a beautiful gem with a "Cushion Brilliant" cut. Depending upon the light under which it's viewed, the stone can show flashes of reddish-gold or peach or a clove brown hue, but if you look closely there are actually a few tiny spots of a rarely seen BLUE COLOR inside the gem, which is almost unheard for Axinite. It's important to note that this stone is honestly fairly good size for the material as Axinite rarely forms in crystals that are gemmy or thick enough for faceting, so an Axinite gem over 1 carat is very impressive. These stones are very rare considering that rough is extremely difficult to find, not to mention that this area of Pakistan which produced this material has been dry for years. I was able to purchase this gem from an old source who had some leftover stones in their inventory. It is difficult to find Axinite in clean stones, so inclusions are accepted by most collectors and dealers, but this gem is only VERY slightly included. Axinite shows trichroism in thicker examples, and this stone does a very slight change color when rotated in different directions. Axinite is actually hard enough that it can be worn in jewelry, though it is a bit brittle. A great rare gem for any collector of these type of stones.
