Item Description
Please note, this specimen was originally labeled as Tinzenite, a member of the Axinite group, but it has since been discovered that this material is actually Axinite-(Mn). With that said, specimens of this material from a tiny isolated find in 1990s are virtually impossible to obtain these days. This piece features a few small (up to 2 mm) thin bladed crystals of pale yellow Axinite-(Mn) sitting atop sparkling pink crystallized Rhodonite on matrix. If you look closely with high magnification, you can actually see a few tiny, but very GEMMY blades of Axinite-(Mn) scattered around the piece as well. We photographed this piece with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. If you collect rare minerals, rare associations or unusual material (especially from Peru), do not miss out on this incredibly hard to find piece that dates back about 25 years. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016) with a label from noted rare species dealer Josef Vajdak. David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
