Item Description

Classic and desirable parallel-growth, beautiful clove-brown, very glassy, transparent to translucent axinite blades with textbook razor-sharp terminations from Puiva. The internal play of colors is mesmerizing, depending on the lighting. This two-sided matrix miniature beauty is pristine. These came out in the early to mid-1990s, with none since. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 12242 and acquired from J.D. Parsons at the 1990 Denver Show. The labels say the nearby Dodo Mine, but this is incorrect. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). These Puiva axinites set the world-wide standard for the species and are seldom available in this quality today. Excellent axinite from locale and seldom available today.
